About Us
A Vineyard church advancing God’s kingdom in Halifax
Vineyard Church Halifax is a Christian church in Middle Sackville and part of Vineyard Canada and Global Vineyard . We are down-to-earth, really enjoy one another, and love welcoming people into our church family. Many in our community also know us through our Vineyard Ice Cream Hut and our well-loved Preschool Indoor Playground .
Our History
Vineyard Church Halifax started in Sackville, NS, in 1988. After being impacted by the powerful, intimate worship and practical teaching of John Wimber at a Vineyard conference, pastors Steven and Sharon MacPherson, Larry and Karen Levy, and Glen and Peggy Lucas all felt God say, "Welcome home, this is your family." Shortly after, we became part of the Vineyard movement. We have continued to be a vital East Coast voice in the Vineyard movement.
In our early years, for a season, our church met in Halifax's North End and served women and children through our Lambs Lunch outreach. In 1997, we returned to our roots in Sackville and bought land. In 2002, we built our Ministry Centre. Today, we continue to enjoy church together in our multi-use building, welcoming friends, neighbours, and members of the community to our busy Vineyard Ice Cream Hut and Preschool Indoor Playground. God has also led us to develop and continue supporting international Vineyard partnerships in Rwanda and Burundi, and to connect with the persecuted church by forging friendships with Iranian brothers and sisters.
In 2025, Mike and DJ Poworoznyk became lead pastors of Vineyard Church Halifax as Larry Levy began transitioning from pastoring our church to developing Vineyard partnerships in East Africa. Karen retired from pastoral ministry and continues to facilitate children’s ministry in our church. In January 2026, Mike became the full-time lead pastor, and DJ began serving as executive pastor.
We pray that God will continue strategically connecting us with those seeking life with Jesus. If that is you, come!
